UUS POST – Budapest!

Oh kui sinisilmsed me olime! Continue reading

To Budapest and Beyond!

After our short stay in Prague wehad  one last quick dash to make and that was to Budapest where we were finally to get our hands on those illusive Australian visas! 🙂  We decided for our first day to try and get close to the Hungarian border and hopefully stay in a small campground near Lednice and to use the back roads rather than the motrorway so we could see more of the Czech Republic.  The plan seemed to be working OK, we escaped the clutches of Prague without too many problems and were making good time across the country although there were loads of little villages all the way along our route so decided to stop at Jindrichuv Hradec to have a spot of lunch.  Soon we were on our way again making a bee line for Lednice nothing could stop us now …. or could it!!  Now as you may have noticed, throughout our exploits Kadri and I have not been the greatest navigators when it comes to the close confines of the larger cities and unfortunately for us this evening that inability was to spread to the wider confines of the wide open countryside, in short we managed to get lost again!  This time though, to make matters worse, we were stuck in the middle of what looked like a grass wasteland taken straight out of American Werewolf with no hint of a helpful local to help us out. Kas brünetid on paremad kui blondid? / Are Brunettes better than Blondes?

Not sure how much better these brunettes are but hopefully it should be a wee bit easier past Croatia! Wasn’t that keen on dying my hair at first but the more I thought about it the more reasonable it seemed and now I quite like it, although the first week I only tied my hair back, it was too strange seeing my “new” dark hair!

Continue reading

Pretty Prague

We ended up staying in a hostel (I can’t say Youth Hostel anymore, I think I might be done for trade descriptions (the youth not hostel part)!!) in the poorer part of Prague, Holešovice, in a hostel called Sir Tobys. The first night we stayed in a private apartment on the top floor and our other two nights we stayed in a private twin room, all nights were a bit expensive but we learnt a valuable lesson …… book before you arrive! 🙂 Saying that the hostel was lovely, it has a pub in the cellar where people can hang out, free WIFI, a small coffee area and a really nice kitchen where you always get chatting to someone. For our first night there we booked into one of their private apartments which was lovely, we were tucked up in the top floor in a room which Kadri thought was larger than her first flat! The view from the room wasn’t that great but it was beautifully decorated and it had it‘s own shower room, a lovely large double bed, a single bed and tea and coffee facilities, I think we might have been spoiling ourselves! Võidusõit ajaga ehk kuidas me Eestist Prahasse jõudsime

Peale toredat kuute nädalat Eestis jõudis kätte päev mil me viimaks TÕESTI pidame teele asuma. Igatahes lõpuks 19ndal septembril asusime me Haapsalust teele. Continue reading

Estonia – Czech Republic

It was with great sadness that we left Estonia, we had only been there for a short time but I had become much more relaxed with handling life there and Kadri had really enjoyed her time catching up with everyone and getting to hear Estonian being spoken all around her and getting to speak Estonian to people 🙂 As is the norm with us now we managed to leave a few things till past the last minute which meant that we didn’t leave Haapsalu till around 11 so our target for getting over the Polish border by the end of the day was looking doubtful but we were still hopeful (well at least I was 🙂 ). We headed off down Route 31 and then onto Route 60 stopping off in Parnu to say a quick goodbye to Mari-Liis (Kadri‘s sister), a quick hot chocolate break to warm ourselves up before we headed over the border into Latvia on the faster E67. The riding throughout the whole of the day was pretty dull, the landscape through this part of Estonia and the area of Latvia we travelled through is all pretty flat which when it opens up can offer some nice views but for the main part the road is hemmed on both sides with tall trees meaning that all you really get to see is about two foot of woodland!
